Guide to Torre del Mar on the Costa del Sol
A lorry and two cars were involved in a collision on Tuesday afternoon in Vélez-Málaga. The incident occurred at 13:30 at km 271 on the A-7. Fortunately no-one was injured in the accident.
Vélez-Málaga Council is currently intending to introduce new amendments to the public transport system in order to cut travelling times and boost passenger numbers. Officials will meet next week with the transport concessionaire Travelsa in order to try and finalise the proposals. more

The Junta de Andalucia has described the proposed renting of the Vélez-Málaga trams to city in New South Wales in Australia as a ‘step backwards’, although it still refuses to provide any kind of funding as it considers the responsibility for this public transport service rests with the municipality. more
The first phase of the renovation of the promenade in Torre del Mar, originally scheduled to be completed in June 2012, is now finished and the Council has signed the certificate of acceptance. more
In the first five days of operation of the dining facility set up in Vélez-Málaga to help those with limited or no financial resources as a result of unemployment and the general financial crisis, a total of 750 meals were distributed free of charge to needy families in the community. more
The Conservatorio Elemental de Música ‘José Hidalgo’ in Torre del Mar plays host to a number of musical concerts. On Monday April 22nd it is a trio comprising the guitars of Takeshi Tezuka and Tamaki Shibuya and the piano of Yoko Takaki. more
The Torre del Mar Fashion Show 2013, organised by the Association of Merchants and Entrepreneurs (ACET), takes place on Thursday April 11th at 18:30 on a specially constructed catwalk in calle Del Mar. A total of nine local store will be participating and the models, around 30 in total, will be supplied by the Manuel Beltrán Modelling School in Málaga.
Police have closed down two illegal bingo parlours, one in Torre del Mar and one in Vélez-Málaga, in which a total of 65 people were playing at the time of the raids. more
Vélez-Málaga Council is set to launch the tender process for a new €1.4 million Social Services office complex during the month of April, the project currently having a completion period of eighteen months.<!–more–>
The new building, with three floors, is to be built on a 5.475 square metre municipal plot of land in calle Hojalateros and construction could start before the summer.
The new Social Services building will have a total of 29 offices, 3 multi-purpose rooms and 2 rooms for workshops. According to the Council, the new facilities will improve the quality of service offered by the Social Services Department.
